About the role

Inclusion Counselors ensure campers with diverse learning, behavioral, or developmental needs can fully participate in camp. You’ll implement accommodations and behavior supports designed by the Inclusion Coordinator and camp leadership, focusing on proactive strategies, calm coaching, and a safe, welcoming environment.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver daily supports as directed by the Inclusion Coordinator (visual schedules, social stories, sensory tools, task breakdowns, cueing, and reinforcement systems).
  • Provide small-group assistance during activities, transitions, lunch, swim, and field trips; maintain constant, attentive supervision.
  • Use positive behavior supports, set clear expectations, pre‑teach routines, offer choices, and de‑escalate calmly; seek help early when concerns arise.
  • Collaborate with Counselors and Junior Counselors to adapt activities and environments for access and inclusion; model respectful peer interactions.
  • Track observations and complete required notes/incident reports accurately and on time; maintain confidentiality.
  • Communicate professionally with the Inclusion Coordinator and Camp Director; participate in required training and briefings.
  • Monitor spaces for risk; identify and report hazards/maintenance issues; uphold safety protocols at all times.
  • Meet or exceed ACA practices and Virginia child day program licensing standards.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; be punctual, prepared, and flexible; perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or designee.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting children with disabilities or learning/behavioral differences in camp, school, or community programs.
  • Skills with inclusive strategies (visual supports, sensory regulation, social narratives, reinforcement systems, basic data/ABC notes).
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR (or able to obtain and maintain)
  • Clear, patient communicator; collaborative, coachable, and calm under pressure.
Eligibility

Must be at least 18 years old by the first day of employment and able to pass required background/screening checks per School and Virginia regulations.
