Base pay range

$39.75/hr - $57.64/hr

The Construction Inspector – Building/General performs on-site construction inspections and monitors construction operations to ensure compliance with work plans and contract specifications for major construction projects for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).

Serves in the Construction Department of the Office of Engineering, located at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) or Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

Oversees and inspects construction projects to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, building codes, and safety regulations. This role involves reviewing contractor work, monitoring construction progress, identifying potential issues, and providing detailed reports. The inspector collaborates with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to address construction challenges and ensure quality standards are met. Additionally, monitors, performs coordination, inspects, and reports on Capital Construction Program (CCP) projects and large projects funded by the Capital, Operating and Maintenance Investment Program (COMIP).

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspects general building components and structure.

Monitors contractor’s progress to ensure activities, milestones, and completion dates are achieved on schedule.

Collects information and draft documents for management action.

Reviews and /validates payment requests to ensure compliance with actual work in place and the contract specifications.

Works with engineers and architects, consultants, and MWAA staff to resolve conflicts and concerns.

Verifies materials and equipment delivered to the construction site comply with requirements. Observes work and work methods to ensure the structure is being built in accordance with acceptable work practices, contract specifications, and safety requirements.

Conducts inspection of work both in progress and upon completion to ensure an acceptable level of workmanship.

Creates daily reports on construction status and progress and quality control/assurance.

Assists COTR in development and review of change orders and claims including preparation of scope of work, cost estimates, negotiation strategy, and position statements.

Assists the COTR as required for coordinating utility outages within the Airport for scheduling purposes. Coordinates and communicates punch list items and provides tracking through closeout of individual items.

Reviews project plans and specifications to ensure constructability. Reviews contractor work plans and provides comments to various stakeholders. Determines whether physical obstructions or other construction difficulties have been anticipated and whether materials specified are readily available.

Inspects materials, work methods, and workmanship to ensure each is in accordance with the approved plans and specifications.

Interviews contractor employees to ensure labor laws and regulations are followed.

Identifies work that is not in compliance with building codes and takes proper and timely action to notify the COTR of deficiencies.

Confers with site superintendent regarding construction or design issues. Consults with on-site and off-site architect/engineer personnel in the resolution of design conflicts or feasibility of construction changes proposed by contractors.

Prepares timely written documentation, including daily construction reports that details work performed and identifying non-compliant work.

Writes various logs, technical notes and technical summaries.
