We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Superintendent to join our construction team in Virginia. This role provides critical support to the lead Superintendent in managing daily site operations, coordinating field activities, and ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and eager to develop into a full Superintendent role, gaining broad experience across commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Superintendent in planning, coordinating, and supervising all on‑site construction activities from mobilization through project closeout.
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, ensuring subcontractors, labor crews, and suppliers are aligned with milestones and deadlines.
- Monitor quality of workmanship and adherence to project specifications, building codes, and industry best practices.
- Enforce strict safety standards, conducting daily toolbox talks, safety inspections, and monitoring compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols.
- Track daily progress, including manpower, equipment usage, material deliveries, and work performed, reporting updates to the Superintendent and project management team.
- Proactively identify potential challenges or delays, collaborate with the Superintendent and project managers to implement corrective actions, and ensure minimal impact on schedule and budget.
- Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation, including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, change orders, punch lists, and as‑built records.
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, clients, and internal teams to maintain workflow efficiency and resolve issues promptly.
- Assist with inspections, testing, and commissioning activities; ensure punch list items are addressed and projects are completed to client satisfaction.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on site processes, safety, logistics, and productivity.
- Mentor and guide junior field personnel, fostering teamwork, accountability, and a professional jobsite culture.
- Previous construction experience in a supervisory or field leadership role on commercial, industrial, or residential projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications accurately.
- Exceptional organizational, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast‑paced field environment.
- Proficiency with construction management software and documentation tools is a plus.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
