Mutuel Clerk (Part-time) – Rosie’s Gaming and Colonial Downs

Location:

New Kent, VA 23124 | Pay: $15.00/hour

Sells and cashes wagering vouchers for guests at self-serve terminals.

• Provide next-level guest service to internal and external guests.
• Foster an environment of support and motivation for team members.
• Maintain confidentiality of all privileged information.
• Operate under strict rules and regulations of the Virginia Racing Commission and Colonial Downs Group.
• Run for a mutuel window, providing courteous service and ethical standards; refrain from personal wagering.
• Use teller terminal (ticket issuing machine) with a money drawer.
• Accept wagers and issue mutuel tickets accurately.
• Cash winning tickets, determining validity and value.
• Handle money for ticket issuance, cashing, drawers, and returns; cover any shortages.
• Monitor guests to prevent minors from wagering.
• Triage guest complaints to supervisor.
• Resolve problems within scope of authority; recommend solutions for issues beyond scope.
• Keep supervisor informed of relevant activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Friendly, professional, efficient service in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
• Clear verbal communication explaining wagering options, payouts, and procedures.
• Remain calm, courteous, and accurate during high-volume racing periods.
• Accurately handle large volumes of cash, tickets, and vouchers.
• Strong attention to detail for precise ticket issuance, payouts, and change-making.
• Balance drawer and complete end-of-shift reconciliations with minimal discrepancies.
• Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, quick mental calculations.
• Read, interpret, and process pari-mutuel wagers and odds.
• Comfort using computerized wagering terminals, ticket scanners, and POS systems.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality; available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior cash-handling, customer service, or retail experience preferred.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn pari-mutuel wagering systems and terminals.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Virginia Racing Commission racing license required.

• Stand or sit for extended periods during assigned shifts.
• Handle repetitive hand and wrist movements associated with ticketing and cash handling.
• Work in environments that may include noise, crowds, secondhand smoke, and varying temperatures depending on the assigned station and guest volume.
• Work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
