The Department of Medicine's Division of Hospital Medicine at the University of Virginia, School of Medicine seeks multiple academic Hospitalists to join a growing practice of more than 40 physicians with expanding roles in the UVA Health System. Teaching opportunities in our residency program and medical school are abundant. Rank and compensation are contingent upon qualifications and experience.
Our practice has exceptional support from health system leadership and leads a variety of initiatives to improve quality of patient care and clinical operations. We also provide medical co-management for orthopedic surgery and oncology patients. Our faculty represent a broad range of academic interests and expertise in medical education, clinical research, and quality and patient safety.
Roles & Responsibilities- Traditional academic hospitalist: 182 shifts/year with a mixture of direct care, co-management, and traditional teaching wards.
- Nocturnist: 130 night shifts per year.
- Hybrid nocturnist: 65 night shifts and 91 daytime shifts per year.
The successful candidate will pass a background check and pre‑employment health/drug screening. This is an exempt‑level, benefited position.
Qualifications- MD or DO, board‑certified or board‑eligible in Internal Medicine by appointment start date.
- Experience and/or interest in Hospital Medicine, quality and safety, clinical operations, or teaching is strongly encouraged.
- Prior experience in Hospital Medicine or beginning a career in academic hospital medicine is acceptable.
- Research is not required in these positions.
