Assistant Residency Program Director (Open Rank, Tenure-Eligible) — Department of Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks an outstanding psychiatrist to serve as Assistant Residency Program Director (APD). Rank (Assistant/Associate/Professor) and tenure status are commensurate with qualifications. The APD will join a dedicated residency leadership team to advance curriculum, rotations, recruitment, and resident professional development while contributing to high-quality clinical care and scholarly activity.
Clinical duties may include inpatient psychiatry, consultation-liaison, addiction services, general outpatient, and subspecialty clinics within UVA Health. The incumbent will teach and supervise residents and medical students, provide in-person services, participate in telepsychiatry where appropriate, and share in faculty call on nights and weekends as part of a rotation.
- Administrative:
- Collaborate with the Program Director, Associate Program Directors, and GME partners on program operations, accreditation readiness, and continuous quality improvement.
- Support resident recruitment and selection, including application review, interview day execution, and rank list preparation.
- Coach residents in clinical competency, scholarly development, professionalism, and career planning; contribute to CCC/PEC activities and documentation.
- Clinical Care:
- Provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment in assigned clinical settings (inpatient, consultation-liaison, ED/urgent care, addiction services, and/or ambulatory clinics).
- Partner with interprofessional teams to deliver integrated, measurement-based, recovery-oriented care; contribute to access and throughput initiatives.
- Program Development, Scholarship, and Service:
- Advance educational initiatives.
- Engage in scholarly activity in medical education and/or clinical domains.
- Serve on departmental and institutional committees as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications- MD or DO (or foreign equivalent).
- Board-eligible or board-certified in Psychiatry by start date.
- Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and teaching.
