UVA Engineering Rising Scholar Postdoc-to-Faculty Program
The University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for the UVA Engineering Rising Scholars Postdoc-to-Faculty Program. This program encourages early‑career scholars to pursue an academic career by supporting their postdoctoral work before beginning a tenure‑track position program seeks to recruit exceptional scholars committed to building a collaborative intellectual community and promoting a welcoming scholarly environment. Selected candidates will enhance the excellence of UVA Engineering through their research, educational efforts, and service.
UVA Engineering will fund a postdoc position at an institution best suited to develop the candidate’s scholarship for up to two years. During this time, participants will engage in multidimensional professional development, including opportunities to develop research skills, mentoring, networking, and building collaborative professional relationships. The Rising Scholars Program is designed to create a seamless transition into a faculty position with high productivity immediately.
Upon completion of the postdoc, the candidate will join UVA Engineering as a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in their home department.

Qualifications- Applicants from all areas represented in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (see: ).
- Final year of graduate school with identified graduation/dissertation date.
- Potential to be a high‑impact researcher.
- Ability to contribute to teaching mission of home department.
- Capability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Potential to foster collaborative environments within UVA Engineering.
- Priority to candidates contributing to the School’s strategic plan and mission.
- Background checks and Education Verification (FSAKA) required.
- A cover letter identifying why the program is attractive, and possible sites and locations for the postdoc position.
- A current CV.
- A statement describing current research projects, future directions, and broader impacts.
- A statement describing teaching practices designed to create a residential learning environment marked by the free and collegial exchange of ideas.
- A statement describing demonstrated contributions to fostering practices that create climates in which all stakeholders can achieve their maximum potential; focus on skills and experiences, not personal beliefs.
