Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two‑year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri‑Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.

Richard Bland College is currently seeking exceptional Computer Science, Computer Programming, and/or Computer Engineering professors to serve in permanent, non‑tenure track, full‑time positions (with option for renewal based upon performance and college policy) for the Fall 2026 semester. The primary role of these positions is to provide college‑level instruction and academic‑related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable student success.

In addition to teaching computer science, mathematics, and/or engineering at all levels and supporting the development of stronger interdisciplinary ties with other departments, duties include student advising and committee service under our shared governance structure as part of the Department of Natural Science & Mathematics at the College. Reporting to the Chair of Natural Science & Mathematics, these faculty members will be an integral part of our academic community, whose major responsibilities include:

  • Teaching programming, computer science, IT, mathematics, and/or engineering courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Preparing and submitting timely grade reports and other reports on student performance, as required.
  • Organizing class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the courses.
  • Providing input and working with other faculty and staff to review, produce, and/or select course‑related materials.
  • Enthusiastic commitment to the Richard Bland College mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master of Science degree (or higher) in a computer science/engineering discipline from a regionally accredited college or university; or a M.S. degree with 18 graduate credit hours in computer science and/or engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) of instruction, which include computer programming (Java, Python, C++/C#, etc.), network computing, cybersecurity, engineering‑related methods/disciplines, or some combination thereof.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of first‑ and second‑year college students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative style.
Additional Considerations
  • An earned doctorate in Computer Science and/or Engineering.
  • Ability to teach courses in mathematics, cybersecurity, and/or data science.
  • Experience as a college faculty member.
  • Extensive background and experience in implementing innovative education delivery techniques.
