Job Duties
Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution focused on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. Located outside the Tri-Cities region on more than 750 acres of wetlands, forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove, RBC is a hidden gem.
We are seeking an exceptional Sociology Professor for a permanent, non-tenure track, full‑time position. In addition to teaching Sociology at all levels and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the faculty member will assist with student advising and committee service within the Social & Behavioral Sciences Department.
Major Responsibilities
- Teach Sociology courses in accordance with college and departmental policies.
- Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other documentation of student performance.
- Organize class activities and assignments aligned with course learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with other faculty and staff to review, produce, and select course materials.
Minimum Qualifications
- Terminal degree in Sociology (or a closely related discipline).
- Demonstrated knowledge of the subject area(s) of instruction.
- Knowledge of effective communication and instruction fundamentals.
- Understanding of the characteristics and challenges of first‑ and second‑year college students.
- Interpersonal skills and collaborative style.
Additional Considerations
- Considerable experience teaching at the collegiate or community college level.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including responsiveness to diverse learner needs.
