Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Tenure‑Track)

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure‑track position in Mathematics within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The position is a full‑time, 9‑month commitment at the assistant professor level with a start date of August 2026.

  • Create and teach undergraduate courses in Mathematics at both introductory and advanced undergraduate levels.
  • Serve the department and college on various committees.
  • Advise students.
  • Pursue ongoing scholarly activity preferably in conjunction with undergraduate students.
  • Assist the department chair with assessment and other duties as needed.

Successful candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics; and should have the demonstrated ability for engaged and innovative teaching at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching expertise in pure mathematics who articulate a clear understanding of UVA Wise’s public liberal arts mission.
