Job DescriptionEstablished in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. SVCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of Recruiter for our Christanna Campus in Alberta, VA. The Recruiter offers outreach and recruitment services to high school and adult learner populations; provides guidance and communicates information to prospective and enrolled students on SVCC’s admissions process, academic and workforce programs, courses, and procedures. The Recruiter will plan, implement, and support activities that align with the mission of the Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) division through an equity lens and impact outcomes related to student onboarding, persistence, and engagement.
The purpose of the Recruiter’s position is to recruit prospective high school students and adult learners organize and execute special events targeting potential students and assist in dual enrollment administration as necessary, oversee innovative recruitment opportunities for the Eastern Region of our service areas (and college-wide as needed), strengthen community partner relationships through outreach and representation of the college, and be a contributing member of the onboarding team, offering support to prospective students from inquiry to enrollment.
Minimum Qualifications- Valid driver's license
- Recent professional experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Google Docs, People Soft (or related student information systems), retention-based software, and customer relationship management (CRM) software
- Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically, and age-diverse individuals
- Expertise in student services, including one or more of the following: college admissions, advising, financial aid/services, recruitment, and other related areas
- Ability to maintain appropriate legal compliance in the areas of budget development and monitoring, and records management
- Ability to respond meaningfully to the needs of individuals with respect, sensitivity, and civility
- Ability to give instructions to others; arrive at decisions, develop solutions
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce, student population, and individuals with disabilities
- Ability to manage interpersonal conflict situations requiring tact and diplomacy
- Ability to create promotional materials for services provided (including print, social media, and website presence)
- Understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other applicable laws; ability to maintain confidentiality and legal compliance; using professional discretion, and exercising ethical conduct
- Ability to present materials effectively to individual students or groups
- Ability to independently plan, organize, and implement multiple assigned responsibilities, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to participate as a team member, understand and interpret rules and regulations, and adjust to change
- Ability to access, interpret, and analyze data and proactively utilize this information to address student needs and continuously improve onboarding and engagement initiatives
