Summary

Gordon-Barbour Elementary is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Long Term Substitute Teacher for our Music program. This position is designed for an individual who is passionate about music education and is committed to fostering a positive learning environment for students. The substitute teacher will be responsible for maintaining continuity in the music curriculum during the regular teacher's absence, ensuring that students remain engaged and motivated in their musical studies.

Responsibilities
  • Implement lesson plans as provided by the regular music teacher to ensure a seamless transition in instruction.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student participation and creativity in music.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback on performance and participation in music activities.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Communicate regularly with students, staff, and parents regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Adapt lessons to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with varying musical backgrounds and abilities.
  • Maintain an organized and resourceful classroom, including the upkeep of musical instruments and materials.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate music education with other subject areas when applicable.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification or license in music education is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience teaching music to elementary-aged students is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of music theory, vocal techniques, and instrumental instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to create an engaging and dynamic learning environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of students and the curriculum.
  • Commitment to fostering a love of music and creativity in students.
  • Background check and clearances as per school district policy.

This position is anticipated to start in February, 2027.
