Tax Manager, Tax Accountant
Job Summary
The Tax Manager will be responsible for day‑to‑day operations of the Tax Department, overseeing preparation, review, and filing of corporate income tax, sales & use tax, personal property tax, and other miscellaneous tax returns. The manager will support the Tax Director in executing daily tasks and long‑term projects, collaborating with senior‑level staff. This hybrid role works from our corporate headquarters in Fairfax, VA.
CompensationSalary range $105k – $115k USD annually, negotiable based on experience.
Responsibilities- Corporate income tax compliance
- Prepare U.S. federal and multi‑state corporate income/franchise tax returns (Forms 1120 and state equivalents)
- Calculate and make timely federal and state estimated & extension payments
- Ensure accuracy using tax software and ERP (One Source & Workday)
- Maintain tax work papers and documentation for audit readiness
- Sales & use & property tax compliance
- Oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of state & local tax returns
- Maintain account reconciliations of sales tax ledger and prepaid property taxes Perform tax research and communicate results to operations
- Train and mentor senior tax staff
- Manage audits, tax credits & incentive projects, various research projects
- Assist in calculation of book‑to‑tax differences and year‑end income tax provision
- Maintain tax calendar and filing requirements
- Identify areas for process improvement & automation
- Coordinate preparation and filing of miscellaneous fee returns
- Collaborate with inter‑departmental needs and research requests
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- CPA certification (or pursuing certification)
- 5+ years of experience in accounting and/or tax; public accounting preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel
- Detail‑oriented with strong investigative abilities
- Strong problem‑solving and commitment to confidentiality
- Effective communicator with strong organizational skills
