Job DutiesThe Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
The Program Operations Specialist supports the development, coordination, and delivery of violence intervention, behavioral services, and related programming within the juvenile correctional environment. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of the juvenile justice system, experience working directly with high‑risk youth, and strong administrative, analytical, and organizational capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications- Comprehensive knowledge of the juvenile justice system; case management guidelines, and juvenile justice program development.
- Considerable knowledge and experience directly supervising direct care youth, and youth with a history of violence or gang involvement.
- Extensive history working within a juvenile correctional center setting, alternate placements, and/or detention center.
- Ability to develop and plan policies, standards, regulations, legislation, goals, and strategies; to interpret data, policies and procedures and make recommendations related to management and operational issues and resource deployment.
- Demonstrated ability to independently gather and interpret data, draw conclusions, and implement solutions; clearly present information in written and verbal formats; manage multiple tasks and projects; work independently.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft and other computer software including spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and presentation packages.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff from various levels of agency operations.
- Office services experience including competency working with Word and Excel software. Experience working with psychological and medical terminology.
- Conscientious attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Office management experience is preferred.
