Location:

Adult Outpatient Pavilion. Days/hours:
Monday-Friday 7:30-5:00 (flexible), with opportunity to pick up extra hours on evenings, nights and weekends at main campus and other satellite locations.

The practice of radiography is performed by radiologic technologists responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation to humans of all ages (newborn to geriatric) for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. A radiographer performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. Radiography integrates scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction and compassionate care resulting in diagnostic information.

A radiographer recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of a procedure.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique.
  • Possess, utilize, and maintain knowledge of radiation protection and safety.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between patients, licensed independent practitioners, and other members of the support team.
  • Maintain sensitivity to the physical and emotional needs of patients through communication, assessment, monitoring, and care skills.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and continuous assessment of performance.
  • Think critically and use independent, professional, and ethical judgment in all aspects of work.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance patient care, public education, knowledge, and technical competence.
  • Perform radiographic procedures and determine radiographic exposure factors.
  • Assist LIP with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiographic procedures; perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a LIP.
  • Apply patient safety principles during all procedures, including patient transport.
  • Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic imaging orders in the patient’s medical record.
  • Corroborate patient clinical history with the ordered procedure and ensure information is documented for use by a LIP.
  • Verify informed consent and assume responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and apply ALARA principles to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Perform venipuncture and start/maintain intravenous access per procedural protocol based on imaging orders from a LIP.
  • Identify, prepare, and/or administer medications generally associated with diagnostic imaging procedures as prescribed by a LIP.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
  • Identify and escalate emergency situations and manage until the appropriate LIP, EMS, MERT, RRT, or Code Team arrives to assume control.
  • Provide patient education related to imaging procedures.
  • Educate, mentor, and provide general oversight of students and other learners in the Radiology environment.
  • Participate in and/or perform ongoing quality assurance activities.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements
  • Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R)
  • For new graduates:
    Must pass certification exam within 90 days of graduation date
  • Current Certification by ARRT for continued employment
  • Eligibility to progress to Imaging Technologist Advancement Program Clinical Ladder Level 2 within 24 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)

  • Experience PREFERRED:
    One (1) year of previous radiologic technologist work experience; prior work experience in an academic medical center environment
Education / Training
  • REQUIRED:

    Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology recognized by the ARRT
  • PREFERRED:
    Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or closely related field from an accredited program
