Job Description

Inova Loudoun Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Department (ED) Trauma Specialist to join the team. This role will be full-time, 2-12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM; every other weekend; one (1) on-call shift per 6-weeks; rotating holidays. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Department (ED) Trauma Specialist

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates communication among the trauma team, surgeons, family members and patients to ensure understanding of care plans, coordination of trauma services and team members as well as methods of communication between the team and families
  • Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care to include patient and family education
  • Coordinates with the Medical Director, hospital administration and clinicians to assess the need for policies, procedures and protocols relating to the care of trauma patients
  • Serves as a Liaison to administration by representing the Trauma Program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster a fiscally sound Trauma Program and serves as a resource for the hospital staff regarding trauma care issues
  • Monitors and maintains compliance with statewide trauma system regulatory requirements and coordinates preparation for statewide trauma system designation site visits
  • Acts as a role model and serves as a clinical mentor for team members and responds to trauma team activations and functions in what ever role necessary to assist team members in the care of patients
  • Applies trauma assessment skills to patients and/or patient populations by utilizing the principles of ATCN or Trauma Nurse Core Courses (TNCC) and coordinates and expedites appropriate trauma care based on ATCN or TNCC, Trauma Bay standards and the mechanism of injury
  • Demonstrates evidence of self-development by participating in a minimum of 80 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 18 formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record in order to meet the ACS and state requirements for annual Continued Education Unit requirements for Level One trauma centers
  • May perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensures/Certification
:
Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association;
Pediatric Trauma Nurse Specialist requires Pediatric Advanced Life Support upon hire and must obtain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support within 3 months of hire;
Adult Trauma Nurse Specialist requires Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and must obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 3 months of hire;
Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Experience
: 2 years of Nursing experience at a Trauma Level hospital

Education
:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification
:
Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) certification
