Job Summary
:
The Recycling Supervisor oversees the operations of the County-manned Refuse & Recycling sites and supervises the team of roll-off drivers. This role combines operational leadership with community engagement, requiring the supervisor to educate school students and the general public on litter prevention, recycling practices, and alternative methods of waste diversion.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:
- Supervise site attendants by scheduling, hiring, disciplining, and visiting the sites to ensure that proper procedures are being followed
- Evaluate container sites, including the Landfill convenience center, for improvements and/or upgrades including safety issues
- Ensure that pick-up of material for recycling is made on a timely basis by coordinating contracts with vendors
- Research and identify recycling markets to divert waste materials from disposal
- Administer the litter control and recycling program by preparing a budget, preparing reports, coordinating cleanups, preparing grants, and attending appropriate seminars and Commission meetings
- Assists outside organizations and businesses to develop alternative waste and recycling collection programs
- Provide guidance for waste audits at businesses, schools, and other waste generators
- Educate the general public about recycling and littering by making presentations in County schools and to civic and other interested groups, showing videos, and arranging tours of the landfill and recycling areas
- Provide working knowledge of OSHA requirements as it pertains to employees in that department
- Supervise roll-off drivers by scheduling, hiring, disciplining, and maintaining vehicles used during work
- Make recommendations on rates of pay
- Perform related tasks as required

- Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes assessment of customer needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
