Pediatric Trauma Program Manager

UVA Health is seeking a Pediatric Trauma Program Coordinator to help lead and support the expansion of our trauma designation to a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. This is a vital leadership opportunity for a motivated RN with a strong background in pediatric trauma, specifically in the Emergency Department or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

Responsibilities
  • Develop and establish operational and strategic goals and objectives consistent with the ACS and VDH Pediatric Trauma designation standards; oversee quality and performance improvement.
  • Serve as a technical expert of the Pediatric Trauma Program—keeping abreast of current standards, requirements, and best practices.
  • Maintain Pediatric Trauma Registries, collecting, analyzing, and trending data.
  • Coordinate with the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director, adult Trauma Program leadership, UVA Health Children’s administration, and clinicians to develop and maintain policies, procedures, and protocols related to pediatric trauma patient care.
  • Coordinate with pediatric inpatient and ambulatory teams to ensure all designation requirements are met.
  • Ensure all providers comply with Pediatric Trauma guidelines.
  • Monitor the Pediatric and Adult Trauma Teams’ availability and compliance with policies and standards.
  • Ensure all requirements for Pediatric Trauma designation are supported and implemented in the Emergency Department.
  • Participate in national and state Trauma/EMS committees and organizations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate Pediatric Trauma-related educational programs for faculty and staff.
  • Monitor compliance with the educational requirements of the Pediatric Trauma Program.
  • Organize and support a performance improvement program for pediatric trauma in collaboration with the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director and Children’s Quality Director.
  • Support connections with regional EMS agencies, providing education, performance improvement, and communication of needs.
  • Maintain close connection with UVA Health Children’s administration and Children’s Quality teams to align efforts between the Pediatric Trauma program and broader pediatric care.
  • Support the trauma peer review committee and morbidity and mortality review committees as needed.
  • Provide effective leadership to team/work group.
  • Model effective communication and collaboration skills/behaviors.
  • Take actions to achieve measurable results.
  • Support innovation and organizational change to improve effectiveness.
  • Develop talent and coach peers to enhance capabilities.
  • Perform any other duties in alignment with the pediatric trauma designation and all assigned duties.
Preferred Qualifications
  • RN with 5+ years of experience in pediatric trauma, emergency, or critical care (PICU).
  • Strong understanding of trauma systems and pediatric care standards.
  • Experience in program development, quality improvement, or case management.
  • Management and/or administrative experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and data management skills.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program;
    Master's degree in a related field within five years of hire.
  • Experience:

    Three years of progressively responsible experience in a patient‑care environment, preferably trauma and/or emergency care.
  • Licensure: RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
    American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification.
Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary role involving extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally requires travel to attend meetings and programs.

Compensation

Starting base rate is $71,988.80 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, prior experience, and education.
