Animal Care Specialist (U.S. Army Soldier)

Base pay range: $28,936.00/yr - $50,000.00/yr. This range is provided by United States Army Reserve. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

• Maintain the health and well-being of military animals (including working dogs, horses, and other service animals).
• Provide routine and emergency medical care, such as vaccinations, surgeries, and treatments for injuries and illnesses.
• Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures, administer medications, and perform diagnostic tests.
• Oversee daily animal care, including feeding, grooming, and exercising to maintain fitness and readiness.
• Maintain detailed medical records for each animal and ensure care complies with military standards and regulations.
• Train animals for specific tasks (e.g., detection, patrol, ceremonial duties) as needed to ensure they are fit for their roles.
• Contribute to operational effectiveness and safety of military units relying on animals for critical missions.

• Housing & Lodging:
  Soldiers in this position may receive additional compensation for housing/lodging costs for themselves and immediate family members, in addition to salary (basic Allowance for Housing). Rates are available at military benefits sites.
