Apprentice Technician - Richmond at Hoist & Crane Service Group
The Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in maintaining and repairing cranes. This position performs routine maintenance and fixes problems when cranes malfunction in a safety‑first environment. HCSG is a 24/7 service company that requires technicians to be available on‑call for after‑hour or weekend services as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities- Be on‑call and provide after‑hour services as required.
- Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
- Perform OSHA‑required hoist and crane inspections; generate inspection reports and repair orders.
- Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete work daily.
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly; notify supervisor of any deficiencies.
- Work effectively within a team environment.
- Attend company‑provided trainings and seminars as required.
- Participate in the HCSG 5 Marks program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The work is labor intensive. Must lift up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs rarely. Requires 90 % frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, prolonged standing and sitting. Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling; requires good hand‑eye coordination. Heights reaching over 50 ft are common. Travel up to 20–50 % may be required; willingness to work various shifts, including on‑call and overtime.
Travel out of town may be required.
Work performed inside or outside, subject to extreme hot and cold temperatures. During summer months temperatures can exceed 120 °F. Frequently exposed to noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors.
Minimum Qualifications- 0–2 years of crane experience in an industrial facility.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Commit to working and driving safely.
- Willingness to work at various heights off the ground.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong communication skills; able to work independently or in a team.
- Vocational/Technical training certificate.
- Some electrical and mechanical knowledge.
- Knowledge of hand tools and/or possession of hand tools.
Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug test and background (DISA) check and submit to random and annual drug testing as required.
