Employment Status: Part Time
Pay: $15 per hour / $30 per class
Location: Trilogy at Lake Frederick, Lake Frederick, VA – Located in the heart of Northern Virginia’s famed & majestic Shenandoah Valley.
BenefitsNew hourly full‑time team members working 30 hours or more per week will be eligible for the company medical, dental and life insurance plans the first of the month following 60 days of full‑time employment.
Full‑time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Time Off (PTO) at a rate of 120 hours per year and to 7 paid holidays annually.
Part‑time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Sick Leave in accordance with state guidelines.
All team members 21 years and older are eligible to participate in the J.F. Shea Co., Inc. 401(k) plan after 30 days of service.
Position OverviewThe Fitness Instructor develops fitness classes for different fitness levels, provides training for safe use of exercise equipment, and assists members during class workouts to promote a lifelong health and fitness program. This position reports to the Spa & Fitness Director.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure a high‑quality Blue Star experience for members and guests by modeling and maintaining the standards set in the Blue Star Principles and adhering to BSRG and facility policies.
- Monitor the facility for member and guest use only, ensuring safety.
- Create and facilitate safe and engaging classes for all fitness levels and lead them with enthusiasm and support.
- Consult with members about fitness goals and recommend appropriate classes or routines, considering physical limitations.
- Maintain a professional instructor‑client relationship.
- Report incidents or accidents to the Assistant Spa & Fitness Director or Spa & Fitness Director. Keep current with the facility calendar and participate in events, activities, and seminars as directed.
- Promote the full facility experience by suggesting programs and activities that help members with their personal and social lifestyle goals.
- Be familiar with all spa services offered and be able to suggest complementary treatments.
- Work assigned schedule; begin and end all sessions on time; clean and disinfect equipment to maintain a sanitized environment.
- Assist staff with lifting and storing facility equipment, furniture, and products to maintain the facility and prepare for special events.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- One year previous experience and class instruction experience preferred.
- Current First Aid, CPR/AED certification, and other safety certifications required by the Club.
- Group certification and experience with a 55+ audience preferred.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to demonstrate equipment use for exercise training.
- Able to lift 45‑pound weight plates.
- Ability to speak with volume to direct a class.
- Ability to lead a class and attend to class movements simultaneously; willingness to respond to client queries.
- Maintain professional knowledge about exercise, health, and fitness by staying current with industry trends.
- Ability to explain and promote other facility services to guests.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with others; provide outstanding customer service.
- Demonstrate initiative and independent decision‑making based on sound judgment.
- Consistently achieve high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness are mandatory.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with continuous improvement expectations.
- Flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends; limited travel required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
This position typically works indoors in designated fitness rooms. Noise level is moderate to loud.
Physical DemandsThe job requires standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and other movements throughout the shift, sometimes with repetitive motions. It also demands clear communication in a noisy environment, strength, flexibility, and ability to lift up to 45‑pound plates. Vision and hearing are critical for safe operation.
