Under general supervision of the Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive medical care to residents within the residential treatment setting. The NP collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to promote overall physical care to residents. The NP is responsible for completing history and physical assessments for residents upon admission. The NP is responsible for continuous assessments as needed, and shall guide the overall physical care plan for the residents.
The NP is responsible for collaborating with the Nursing Department and Nurse Manager to ensure adequate care, treatment, and delivery. The NP shall collaborate with psychiatric and behavioral health providers within the organization to provide a cohesive approach to treatment for residents. The NP ensures compliance with all regulatory and ethical standards while fostering a therapeutic and trauma‑informed environment.
The NP will diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions within the NP’s scope of practice. Prescribe medications and medical interventions in accordance with facility policy, state, and federal regulations. Monitor response to treatment and adjust plans/medications as needed. Provide on‑site medical coverall and consultations for emergent or routine health concerns.
The NP will maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in treatment team meetings, as needed. Monitor and assess medication, functioning, and needs of the residents. Educate residents and staff on medication management, health promotion, and disease prevention.
The NP will adhere to all facility safety and infection control standards. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, and Department of Behavioral Health regulations. Report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with mandatory reporting laws. Support safe medication administration practices and oversee nursing adherence to medical protocols.
The NP serves as a resource to the nursing department and direct care staff, and shall promote a culture of safety, respect, and professional accountability.
Qualifications- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current and unrestricted Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (APRN) license in the state of Virginia.
- Current DEA registration and prescriptive authority in accordance with state regulations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must be at least 19 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Experience with trauma‑informed and patient‑centered care models preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), preferred.
- APRN required, NP - PNHNP preferred.
- CPR/BLS preferred.
- Valid Driver's License in good standing.
- Behavioral Management program within 14 days of hire.
Works in a well‑lit, air‑conditioned, and heated environment.
