Overview
Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Field Service Technician in Fishersville, Virginia. The Field Service Technician position is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing engine/components at customer job sites, across model/maker variations. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified new hires (terms below).
Sign-on bonus details:
• $5,000 total sign-on bonus.
• $2,500 payable after 90 days of employment, and $2,500 payable after 180 days of employment.
• Minimum three years of relevant heavy equipment field experience required to be eligible for the $5,000 sign-on bonus. Candidates with less than 3 years of heavy equipment field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Bonuses are issued in two equal installments at 90 and 180 days of employment.
- Provide expert-level diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of engines and components on heavy construction equipment at customer sites, regardless of model or maker.
- Interact with customers professionally and communicate findings and repairs clearly.
- Demonstrate the ability to learn and apply new knowledge and adapt to changing job requirements.
- Promote a positive customer experience and uphold Carter Way core values (Integrity, Commitment, Excellence and Teamwork).
- Thorough knowledge of engines, transmissions, electrical systems and related components to troubleshoot and analyze complex problems quickly, using logic and critical thinking to complete needed repairs.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Self-directed, well organized, with the ability to prioritize workload while delivering excellent customer service.
- Ability to repair Caterpillar and competitive components and machines.
- Demonstrate the ability to learn and apply new knowledge.
- Excellent driving record and valid Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain one; ability to become DOT certified with a DOT Medical Card.
- Proficient use of technical software, databases and manuals.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to work any shift and overtime as needed to meet business and customer demands.
- Physical requirements:
ability to lift/carry/maneuver up to 70 pounds; repetition of reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing; ability to work outdoors in inclement weather; vision requirements as described; and other duties as assigned.
