Job Overview
This position is designated as safety-sensitive. As such, a pre‑employment physical examination and drug screening are mandatory. The incumbent will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the duration of employment.
Department of Water Resources ResponsibilitiesPerforms routine repair and maintenance functions on equipment and the grounds of Public Utilities, assisting operators and other workers to keep the department operating at the highest possible levels.
Completes preventative maintenance on augers, pumps, and other equipment at the various utilities facilities. Performs routine maintenance on equipment assuring grease and oil are added when necessary.
Cleans, paints, washes, and repairs all facility buildings inside and outside; cuts grass; weeds lawns and flower beds; clears sewer line and right‑of‑ways as needed; shovels sludge; washes clarifying units; grinds rust off units; washes oil wells and contact chambers; keeps stock room maintained; informs supervisor of any problems or short supplies; helps drain all units twice a year; may use a backhoe to replace lines;
may assist with electrical repairs. Performs other related duties as required. Employee subject to recall to duty in cases of emergency.
Performs routine, semi‑skilled manual labor in the construction and/or maintenance of streets, roadways, drainage, buildings, grounds and other public facilities. Performs a variety of indoor/outdoor tasks using small hand‑operated power tools and mechanical equipment. May operate trucks and other equipment to transport personnel and tools to and from work sites, and to load, unload, and move materials.
Cuts grass by operating a power push mower; trims grass around obstacles such as shrubs, markers, walls, walks, etc.; uses a weed eater; digs holes manually using a shovel/spade; cleans streets by cutting back brush, removing debris from drains, and removing bulky trash; cleans out catch basins by removing drain and clearing out obstructions using a shovel and/or pitchfork; may be required to backfill between new catch basin and dirt wall;
may perform or assist with trimming hedges, raking leaves, planting grass, cutting down dead trees, clearing storm drains, edging sidewalks, planting shrubs, and collecting trash and litter; uses sling blade and bush axe for clearing sewer line or utility right‑of‑ways; empties drying beds as instructed; paints equipment/machinery as needed; may assist in cleaning facilities; operates a variety of hand and power tools to clear and maintain utility easements and right‑of‑ways;
may put out road signs; may flag traffic as needed; performs routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment; shovels asphalt from asphalt pile or from dump truck, levels hole with a loop, and packs asphalt with a hand tamp or gas‑powered tamp; assists with construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters; levels construction area; builds forms; mixes cement; pours cement; levels cement using a bull float, hand float and/or trowel;
performs duties assigned to residential trash collection crews; collects refuse at residences and empties trash into truck; operates blade to compact trash into truck; may instruct and/or train inmates, part‑time employees, and temporary employees; may oversee the work and actions of inmates, part‑time employees, and/or temporary employees. Employee subject to work scheduled weekend, holiday, or after‑hour's standby. Performs other related duties as required.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. desirable.
Ability to read and write.
One year of related experience required.
Licenses and CertificationsValid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Level III Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technologist Certificate preferred.
Level II Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technologist Certificate preferred.
Class III Water/ Wastewater Treatment Operator License preferred.
