Part Time Domestic Violence Resident Assistant

About ACTS:
We serve our Prince William County neighbors in crisis. Each role provides unique support for our mission to make a difference in their lives.

The Resident Assistant helps ACTS foster hope, provide relief and promote self‑sufficiency for our neighbors in crisis. The role handles the safety and comfort of shelter residents and provides support and trauma‑informed care to domestic violence victims using a trauma‑informed approach. The Resident Assistant oversees the daily operations of the shelter and answers the domestic violence crisis hotline and the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) calls during their shift.

The position is considered essential. Shifts are days and/or overnights, including holidays. Flexibility in the schedule is required.

Position Title: Resident Assistant, Domestic Violence Services

Reports to: Shelter Supervisor

Salary: $18.88 per hour ($19.38 for dual English and Spanish fluency)

Hours per week: Varies (full‑time 37.5, part‑time 25)

Schedule: Shifts of 12.5 hours; 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. day shift. 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. overnight.

Additional work hours require: Meeting and trainings

Classification: FLSA Non‑exempt, Essential

Essential Functions
  • Remain on‑premises, alert, and available to clients for the entire shift unless relieved with supervisor permission
  • Provide support and trauma‑informed care to domestic violence victim shelter residents using the trauma‑informed approach
  • Provide support, advocacy, and crisis intervention when answering the domestic violence crisis hotline and assessing high‑danger calls; place the victim in the shelter when necessary
  • Answer LAP calls
  • Maintain case management system and client records; track statistical data relevant to domestic violence victims; enter data into VADATA and other assigned systems
  • Attend training, staff meetings, and supervision meetings inside or outside of regular shift hours
  • Oversee the shelter’s daily activities and enforce house rules; conduct room checks at shift start and house checks throughout the shift
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming, warm residential environment; prepare facilities for clients, clean rooms, ensure bathrooms are clean, provide towels and toiletries, sanitize vacant rooms, and complete daily sanitation of common areas
  • Conduct intake process per shelter procedures; orient new residents (review rules, chores, tour, personal care items)
  • Aid residents with daily needs: dispense supplies (medication, baby care, personal care, food), coordinate cab services when needed
  • Prepare and check the chore chart; ensure chores are completed; issue warnings when necessary
  • Assist case managers with small tasks to help clients meet goals
  • Assist residents in meal planning and preparation; maintain inventory of food pantry; document all interactions in One Note
  • Report any incident, accident, behavior issue, threat, or altercation to supervisor immediately or call 911
  • Submit food orders from HPC as scheduled
  • Plan and cook meals for all housing residents with supervisor approval
  • Organize, sort, put away, and distribute donations to clients; log donations in One Note
  • Conduct exit interviews per shelter procedures
  • Report equipment needs or repairs to Shelter Supervisor; note on summary
  • Participate in shelter on‑call schedule; flexibility required
  • Complete mandatory CPR, First Aid, Airborne and Blood‑borne pathogens, Domestic Violence, NARCAN, and food handling training (provided by ACTS)
