Overview
Under general supervision, performs instructional duties for the Parks and Recreation Division. Work involves coordinating, planning and teaching tennis lessons; instructing program participants in the use of equipment, body movement, and rules and regulations; observing practice to detect and correct mistakes and maintaining attendance records. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in properly coordinating recreation tennis programs. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with program participants, parents, employees, volunteers, and the general public.
Responsibilities- Plans, organizes and conducts tennis lessons.
- Explains and demonstrates use of equipment.
- Handles class discipline effectively.
- Explains and demonstrates principles, techniques, and methods of regulating movement of body, hands, and feet to achieve proficiency in tennis.
- Observes students during practice to detect and correct mistakes.
- Recognizes and reports safety hazards which may cause injury and/or factors that may lead to accidents.
- Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations.
- Explains method of keeping score.
- Maintains attendance records.
- Reports maintenance and equipment requirements.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma and 2 to 3 years of experience in tennis instruction, preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Tennis playing and/or instruction experience preferred.
- Requires general knowledge of tennis.

Position is a work as required, no benefits.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of athletic equipment and machinery including ball machine, tennis racket, ball hopper, ball basket, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to move continuously for extended periods of time under various weather conditions.
