Overview
Western Albemarle High School – JV Softball Head Coach is responsible for leading and developing a positive, competitive, and educational softball experience for student-athletes. This coach will focus on teaching fundamental skills, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and preparing players for future success at the varsity level, while maintaining clear communication with athletes, parents, and the varsity coaching staff. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational skills, a commitment to student growth both on and off the field, and the ability to foster an inclusive, supportive team culture that aligns with the values of the athletic department and school community.
Responsibilities- Lead and develop a positive, competitive, and educational softball experience for student-athletes.
- Teach fundamental softball skills and promote teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Prepare players for future success at the varsity level and maintain clear communication with athletes, parents, and the varsity coaching staff.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive team culture aligned with the values of the athletic department and school community.
- Knowledge of VHSL rules and regulations.
- Ability to develop and train AA student-athletes.
- Positive relational skills with high school student-athletes, parents, and the community.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles of individual and team fundamentals of softball.
- Ability to organize and prepare practice schedules.
- Ability to develop a solid discipline that emphasizes teamwork and good sportsmanship.
- Previous coaching experience is required.
- Preference will be given to candidates who hold or are eligible for a Virginia teaching license.
- State law requires applicants to disclose prior convictions of law other than minor traffic violations or juvenile offenses; information may be verified to determine employment acceptability.
- Softball coaching/playing experience is helpful.
- After-school and weekend hours may be required.
- Coaching stipend available.

Physical conditions and work contactsDuties are typically performed in school settings including gym and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting, and other physical activities will be required. The position requires daily personal and close contact with student-athletes to provide instruction. The position also requires regular travel with student-athletes to and from matches. Regular contact with other coaches, administrators, parents, and the media.
