Transit Driver

Reports to:

Transit Field Manager

Position Requirements
  • Minimum 21 years of age, valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • Job requires lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must pass DOT physical, drug and alcohol test, and criminal background check.
  • Transit drivers for PACE must have 1 year experience with the elderly.
  • Transit drivers with CDLs and passenger endorsement preferred but not required.
Summary of Duties

Will provide passengers with assistance on and off vehicles, operate vehicles safely, transport riders to various destinations, and provide necessary services as authorized by the PACE Interdisciplinary Team.

Accurate record‑keeping is mandatory. Significant public contact and independent decision‑making are required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Transport riders/passengers to and from approved destinations.
  • Assist riders boarding and unboarding.
  • Use proper techniques with passengers, including those in wheelchairs.
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance, cleanliness, and operative condition.
  • Observe safe‑driving practices outlined in the Four County Transit Safe Driving Policies.
  • Pick up and return participants according to a pre‑determined schedule set by the PACE Transportation Supervisor.
  • Provide updates on participant problems or concerns to the PACE Transportation Coordinator.
  • Collect fees/contributions with proper reporting.
  • Report any unacceptable behavior or profanity on the vehicle.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding riders or agency matters.
  • Do not use the vehicle for personal reasons.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records as identified by the supervisor.
  • Complete and submit accurate reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in all required training.
  • Demonstrate good work ethics.
  • Adhere to all applicable agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
