Job Purpose or SummaryProvides differential diagnosis for patients with functional disorders. Includes writing reports made to contracted facilities and patients’ physicians. Plans, organizes, and conducts therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings to help rehabilitate those impaired because of illness, injury, psychological, or developmental problems. Assists the patient, family, and appropriate restorative personnel to obtain information regarding the specific disorder or disorders while in rehabilitation to facilitate patient recovery.
Interacts regularly with the rehabilitation team and nursing staff on the patient's treatment plan, progress, and prognosis. Evaluates patients’ progress and prepares reports that detail progress. Assures that all required written documentation is completed and appropriately placed in a timely manner. Tests and evaluates patients' physical and mental abilities and analyzes medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals for patients.
Organizes relationships: responsible for the care delivered by COTAs.
- Provides differential diagnosis for patients with functional disorders and writes reports to contracted facilities and patients’ physicians.
- Establishes and carries out treatment programs based on diagnostic information to meet patients’ activities of daily living.
- Assists the patient, family, and restorative personnel to obtain information regarding specific disorders to facilitate recovery.
- Interacts regularly with the rehabilitation team and nursing staff on treatment plans, progress, and prognosis.
- Maintains good rapport with all significant administrative and restorative nursing personnel in facilities.
- Assures that all required written documentation is completed and appropriately placed in a timely manner.
- Submits logs and all billing information promptly.
- Reports any problem areas within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Must have a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Occupational Therapy or related field plus 5 years of experience. Alternatively, a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Occupational Therapy or related field with no experience is acceptable. Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of California.
Comply with the State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board Guidelines.
