Under the direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers, the Medical Assistant (MA) performs work that requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within the Business and Professions Code of the State of California and the regulations of the Joint Commission of the Accreditation of Hospitals (TJC).
These duties also include, but are not limited to: scheduling patient appointments and managing associated system screens, ensuring accurate billing, performing environmental care functions, equipment and supply management, and maintaining cleanliness through proper cleaning and disinfecting protocols. This role requires knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics. The Medical Assistant also must demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize multiple demands, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Additional related duties may be assigned as needed.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
- BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Previous Medical Assistant experience and one (1) year of Ambulatory Care experience.
- Knowledge in medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.
- Experience in direct patient care.
- Requires initiative and the ability to prioritize multiple demands.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and collaborates effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- At least two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience.
- CPT Certification.
- Proficient with venipuncture and must be signed off for competency within 6 months of hiring.
- Experience with a multi-specialty clinic.
- Internal Medicine experience.
- Demonstrated procedural experience
- Previous experience with a Community Health Organization, such as a Community Clinic or a Federally Qualified Health Center(FQHC).
- Experience with EPIC and Cadence module.
- Knowledge and understanding of FLOW process specific to UCSD community care.
- Demonstrated understanding of quality metrics, including pre-charting and pre-visit planning workflows to support efficient, patient-centered care.
- Demonstrated ability to manage clinician workflows to ensure streamlined operations and high-quality patient care.
- Commitment to delivering a positive patient experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Annual Full Pay Range: $52,847 - $65,772 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.31 - $31.50
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
