Production Manager – A full‑time, facility operations role reporting directly to the CEO. The Production & QA Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day operations of the production facility, including brewing and packaging schedules, communication with contract customers and vendors, and serving as the primary point of contact for all production personnel (brewers, cellar staff, warehouse, packaging, and maintenance). The role requires independent leadership, team building, and staff training in production duties.
Responsibilities- Hire and release staff based on performance, safety, and critical needs
- Manage a healthy labor force to meet production objectives while minimizing labor costs
- Conduct monthly individual meetings with team members for growth and performance improvement
- Set employee work schedules, oversee required breaks, and ensure accurate time‑keeping on digital timesheets
- Edit payroll time sheets and correct mixed punches in ADP or other payroll systems
- Quality Assurance
- Lead all QA tasks, ensuring proper filtration, pasteurization, plating, incubation, and sanitization processes
- Inspect and troubleshoot product issues, driving learning and prevention of repeat problems
- Maintain QA equipment preventive maintenance and supplies
- Attend off‑site training seminars and classes as required (e.g., White Labs)
- Brewing & Cellar Management
- Oversee brewing and cellaring operations and assist as needed in hands‑on duties
- Maintain proper storage, inventory of chemicals, parts, and materials
- Train staff on SOPs, safety, and conduct monthly reviews of procedures
- Maintain compliance records (Organic, Vegan, Kosher, Gluten‑Free) and coordinate annual inspections
- Ensure accurate EKOS tank representation and transfers
- Communicate equipment maintenance needs to facility maintenance
- Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Track brews to avoid stock‑outs and align with co‑packing schedules, coordinating with warehouse manager for procurement
- Oversee the warehouse manager’s performance and ensure job expectations are met
- Ensure accurate shipment preparation and dispatch
- Build, assemble, fulfill, and ship orders accurately
- Receive and ship all materials, ensuring proper EKOS entry
- Manage brewery shipping & receiving schedule, coordinate dock appointments, and post invoices after pickup
- Maintain tasting room inventory for package and draft beer
- Maintain accurate physical & EKOS inventory, rotating items FIFO, and properly labeling
- Keep necessary inventory for all brews and cellar activities ahead of schedule
- Ensure warehouse environment is organized, clean, and safe
- Delegate routine cleaning and perform preventative maintenance on warehouse equipment (forklift, scissor lift, pallet jacks, walk‑in coldboxes, etc.)
- Educate team on OSHA and shipping requirements
- Serve as main point of contact for Powered Industrial Truck certifications
- Packaging Management
- Oversee packaging team and confirm adherence to job expectations
- Assist in packaging tasks as needed (breaks, repacks, canning line)
- Ensure pre‑run checklists are followed (product, materials, seams, safety, cleaning, sanitization, storage)
- Maintain correct EKOS documentation of packaged goods
- Minimize loss and operate efficiently for optimal yield
- MUST HAVE PRIOR BREWERY MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE!
- 5+ years of brewing and cellar experience
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Analytical problem‑solving abilities
- Strong communication, teamwork, and exceptional planning & organizational skills with extreme attention to detail
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, well‑functioning facility
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast‑paced environment
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to adjust hours as needed for facility operations
- Able to stand for extended periods
- Able to regularly twist, turn, lift supplies, materials, and equipment up to 65 lb (e.g., 30‑lb cases, 50‑lb malt bags, 65‑lb kegs)
- Able to maneuver 175‑lb kegs using appropriate techniques and tools
- Able to work in a production environment with moderate to loud noise and variable temperature
