The OpportunityVista Unified School District needs calm, steady Campus Security Assistants to help keep its high school and adult education campuses safe. This is an unarmed campus safety role, sometimes called a campus monitor or campus supervisor. Many of Vista’s campus assistants also coach, so when they travel with their teams, schools need someone they can count on to cover. Pick up day-to-day assignments that fit your week, or step into a long-term assignment at one campus.
WhatYou’ll Do Each Day
- Keep an eye on campus: Monitor hallways, quads, parking lots, and other common areas during arrival, passing periods, lunch, and dismissal.
- Be a positive presence: Get to know students, encourage good choices, and redirect behavior before small issues grow.
- De‑escalate conflicts: Step in calmly when tensions rise, help separate students when needed, and bring in school administrators.
- Check in visitors: Greet visitors, make sure they’re signed in, and direct them to the front office.
- Respond and report: Respond to emergencies, provide CPR or first aid if needed, and document incidents and observations for the school team.
- CPR/First Aid: Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to get certified before your first assignment.
- Clearances: A background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) and a quick TB risk assessment. Live Scan cost reimbursed in your paycheck after your 10th day worked.
- Experience (a big plus): Work in school campus supervision, security, coaching, youth programs, or another role where you’ve de‑escalated conflicts.
- Good to know: A School Security Guard Certification is not required.
- Steadiness: You stay calm under pressure and connect well with teenagers.
Security officers, coaches, and youth program staff tend to do well in this role.
Where You’ll Work & Your Schedule- Location: On‑site at Vista Unified schools and other North County San Diego schools. An easy commute from Oceanside, San Marcos, Escondido, Carlsbad, and Fallbrook.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, during school hours. Some assignments cover afternoons when campus assistants travel with sports teams. No overnight or weekend shifts.
- Flexibility: Choose single‑day assignments or long‑term assignments that run several weeks.
- Getting oriented: You’ll learn your campus, key areas, and school procedures at check‑in on day one.
- Pay: $20.71 per hour, paid weekly every Friday.
- Employment type: W‑2 employee with access to medical and 401(k) options.
- Bonuses: Extra pay for high‑need and last‑minute requests, plus $100 when you refer a friend.
- Priority access: Show up consistently and you may earn Swing Hero status, giving you first look at local requests.
- Free training: Skill‑building resources to grow your confidence on the job.
- Create your account: Set up your Swing profile in about 10 minutes.
- Upload your CPR/First Aid card: Add your current certification to your profile so we can verify it.
- Sign your offer letter, then book Live Scan right away: Live Scan is the step that takes the longest, and results can take up to a few weeks, so booking early gets you working sooner.
- Finish your hiring steps online: TB risk assessment, I-9, payroll setup, and a short orientation.
- Pick your first assignment: Most new subs finish onboarding in about three weeks. Then you can choose your first Vista request.
