Purpose

The Unit Clerk assumes clerical responsibility to coordinate activities at the unit nurses' station. Performs receptionist, telephone and clerical duties to support nursing staff in the delivery of care and services to unit residents.

Duties
  • Greets visitors, staff and residents promptly in a polite manner, provides accurate information, and promptly answers questions or resolves problems within scope of responsibility or notifies appropriate facility representative.
  • Maintains order in the nurses' station by organizing records, disposing of excess paper, and eliminating clutter.
  • Establishes and maintains resident charts.
  • Coordinates resident appointments and transportation; accompanies residents on appointments when necessary.
  • Assists residents by responding to call lights and obtaining needed services from nurses and physicians.
  • Maintains unit operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the unit.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, regulations, and infection control policies.
  • Identifies resident problems and concerns and addresses them.
