  • Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns for Texas and other states where Chaparral operates.
  • Ensure proper tax application on construction-related purchases and services, including materials and subcontractor transactions.
  • Maintain and validate exemption certificates for construction projects and customers.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws affecting construction and insulation services.
  • Calculate, report, and remit payroll taxes at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Ensure timely filing of payroll tax returns and deposits.
  • Assist with payroll tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Support internal and external audits related to sales, use, and payroll taxes.
  • Prepare tax reports and provide analysis for management.
  • Work closely with accounting, HR, and project management teams to ensure accurate tax reporting for construction projects.
  • Provide guidance on tax implications for material purchases, subcontractor agreements, and project bids.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, preferably in Texas and multi‑state environments.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and filing requirements.
  • Familiarity with tax application in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems (e.g., Pro‑Contractor, Avalara, Vista, or similar).
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with tax audits and working with state tax authorities.
  • Knowledge of lien release processes and compliance requirements for Texas construction projects.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reconciliation.
