Site Project Engineer - Waco, TX
This position is a key member of the Waco-based Site Engineering team that is responsible for identifying new capital investment opportunities, managing multiple projects concurrently, and demonstrating the ability to develop and execute data-driven decisions in ambiguous scenarios. The successful candidate will effectively communicate with project stakeholders, drive cross-functional teams toward meaningful action, and take ownership for the successful delivery of capital investments and their critical business parameters.
Site Engineers are expected to act as effective and approachable technical leaders that can balance day-to-day operations with capital project work.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with demonstrative experience designing, installing, and commissioning capital projects.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) is preferred.
- Ability to execute six to eight simultaneous capital projects in a single fiscal year.
- Ability to identify potential continuous improvement opportunities, develop comprehensive project briefs, and acquire capital funding from senior company leaders.
- Ability to troubleshoot and concisely identify root causes to challenges based on technology and personnel.
- Demonstrated initiative in learning and applying the Mars Engineering Work Process (EWP) with specific examples from their work experience.
- Knowledge of key mechanical, electrical, controls, or process engineering through a college degree or five years of equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of high voltage (exceeding 480 volts) utility systems.
- Lead daily project toolbox discussions for all active projects with a focus on identifying and mitigating risk.
- Execute project documentation including the Mars Engineering Work Process, daily work permits, and review high risk activities like hot work and confined space.
- Schedule and lead weekly project update meetings for all assigned projects, including post‑meeting communication of topics covered, decisions made, action item owners, and deadlines for next steps.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility where all project personnel, including contract work forces, have the training needed to safely execute project work in a fast‑paced food manufacturing environment.
- Adhere to all required Mars Safety, Quality, and Food Defense requirements and enforce those policies as a role model.
- Develop and execute realistic project charters with a clear scope boundary, a schedule reflective of production restrictions, and a holistic budget that can react to project changes.
- Defend project decisions with data and logical reasoning in a clear and concise manner.
- Share ownership of Asset Health Check, Plant Shutdown Coordination, and Fixed Asset Inventory programs with the rest of the Site Engineering team.
- Provide solutions, take responsibility, and clear roadblocks towards the successful resolution of any escalated issues from operations or broader leadership teams.
- Identify potential new technologies or applications that will drive improvement of key site business metrics.
- Assist other functional groups as a technical expert on behalf of the site engineering team for audits, design meetings, and other requested applications.
- Develop future engineering talent for the site and region to ensure a successful and robust talent pipeline.
