Overview
Manufacturing Engineer (Skidding Business) – Van Tran Transformers.
Location:
Waco, TX (On-site). Exempt position. Reports to Plant Director.
- Specifies, designs, and selects equipment, tools, and fixtures to support skid assembly processes while ensuring safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Designs and optimizes manufacturing cells and workstations to maximize efficiency, ergonomics, and workflow.
- Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and assembly documentation for skid products.
- Supports new product introductions by designing and validating manufacturing processes and tooling.
- Leads trials, pilot builds, and first-article validations for new equipment, processes, or product designs.
- Partners with Quality Engineers to resolve quality issues in real time and incorporate error-proofing (poka-yoke) and inspection methods into the manufacturing process.
- Evaluates equipment performance and drives preventive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime.
- Identifies and implements process improvements to reduce waste, cycle times, and cost, leveraging Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Provides technical support to production teams by troubleshooting process or equipment issues in real time.
- Collaborates with Industrial Engineering on plant layout to ensure alignment of material flow and cell design.
- Collaborates with Product and Design Engineering to resolve product issues in real time.
- Coordinates with SCM to ensure manufacturability of purchased components and proper integration into skid assemblies.
- Trains production personnel on new tools, equipment, and processes, ensuring safe and efficient adoption.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience
This is a full-time position with working hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Depending on workload there may be occasional longer days and weekends as needed. Regular travel is not required for this position. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, including prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, navigating the office and factory floor, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
