Police Officer

Position Summary

The La Vega Independent School District is seeking a qualified, highly motivated Police Officer to provide a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors across all district facilities and events. This role requires a proactive, community-based policing approach within an educational setting.

• Experience in school-based law enforcement or patrol experience
• Training in crisis intervention, de-escalation, or school safety
• Familiarity with multi-hazard emergency operations plans
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Maintain a visible law enforcement presence on assigned campuses
• Protect the safety and welfare of students, staff, and visitors
• Respond to emergencies, criminal activity, and disciplinary incidents
• Enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as district policies
• Assist in emergency drills and campus safety planning
• Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and teachers to support a safe learning environment
• Participate in threat assessment team and safety committee efforts
• Provide mentoring and educational support to students when appropriate
• Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation
• Assist with traffic control and security during arrival, dismissal, and events

• Must hold a current Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE
• Must be eligible to work in the State of Texas
• Must meet all requirements of Texas Education Code 37.081 and 37.0814
• High school diploma or GED required (college coursework preferred)
• Valid Texas Driver’s License
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, psychological evaluation, physical agility test, and drug screening
• Must live within McLennan County or be willing to relocate within the county

$27.12/hour to $38.19/hour, 226 days per year, 8 hours per day
