Apprentice Technician - Waco

Join Hoist & Crane Service Group as an Apprentice Technician. The role is a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in maintaining and repairing cranes.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Be on-call and provide after‑hour services as required.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
  • Perform OSHA‑required hoist and crane inspections, generate inspection reports and repair orders.
  • Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete daily work.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely; report deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and maintain team cooperation.
  • Attend company‑provided trainings and seminars as required.
  • Participate in HCSG 5‑Marks program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

The work is labor‑intensive and requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs daily (up to 100 lbs occasionally). The position requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and prolonged standing and sitting. It also involves occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling, as well as hands‑and‑eye coordination. Heights exceeding 50 feet are common. Employee must travel (20–50% of the time), work various shifts, and may need to work on‑call, overtime, or out‑of‑town shifts.

Environment

Work is performed indoors or outdoors depending on customer requirements, exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors. Summer temperatures can exceed 120°F.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 0–2 years of crane experience in an industrial facility.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and driving.
  • Willingness to work at various heights.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication and ability to work independently or in a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Vocational/Technical training certificate.
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and possession of hand tools.

Must pass a pre‑employment drug test, background check (DISA), and submit to random and annual drug testing as required.
