Solid Waste Operator - CDL

Summary

Minimum Starting Salary is $21.3408 hourly, depending on qualifications.

The City of Waco seeks a dependable individual to operate sanitation trucks and ensure the safe and efficient collection and transport of materials to the City landfill, transfer station, and recycling center.

• Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License required within 90 days of employment.
• Applicant must hold a written permit at the time of application.
• 6 months of heavy equipment operations and/or commercial vehicle experience.

• H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.

• Collect solid waste, refuse, bulky items, and recyclable materials and transport them to the City landfill, transfer station, and recycling center; operate a variety of vehicles and equipment at the City landfill and transfer station in accordance with all safety regulations; perform manual labor tasks as needed; maintain daily work logs and records; provide customer service as needed; perform duties within scope of authority and training and in compliance with City policies;

• Operate specialized heavy equipment to move, grade, and cover landfill and transfer station materials; monitor work environment for safety and continually screen all materials at the landfill in order to identify hazardous and prohibited waste; utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed; inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment according to City standards.
• Support the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintain confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information.
• May be required to respond after hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City‑wide emergency.
