Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for implementing Respiratory Care treatments, procedures, and diagnostic testing according to physician's orders and department policies/procedures.

Job Functions

Provides and monitors the therapeutic administration of medical oxygen, aerosols, humidification, and respiratory medications.

Applies and monitors non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilatory support.

Assists with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintenance of natural airways, and insertion and maintenance of artificial airways.

Obtains physiological specimens and interprets physiological data.

Suggests alternative therapies, alterations in therapy, and changes in therapy frequency to the physician when appropriate.

Instructs patients and their families in techniques for the prevention, alleviation, and rehabilitation of respiratory diseases.

Anticipates patients' respiratory needs post-discharge and facilitates transition to home or other care sites.

Documents patient data and processes billing in accordance with policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

When working in Chaska, performs pharmacy functions:

Monthly outdate checks and returns to Pharmacy.

Receives stock; fills Acu Dose daily and manages the Insty Meds machine as needed.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

Graduate of an AMA-accredited Respiratory Care program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Sensitivity to patients' physical and psychological needs.
Ability to meet background check requirements.
Attention to detail.
Knowledge of respiratory therapy equipment.
Teamwork skills.
Effective communication skills in English.

License/Certifications

Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Licensed by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
