Family companion, mean think

As a family companion, you mean more than you think!

Do you bring fun and support to a family? STG regularly receives questions from parents with a child with a disability or from a family whose parents have a mild intellectual disability. They are looking for extra support at home.

• Support with homework
• Provide extra hands during after‑school or weekend activities
• Teach social skills
• Assist with attending a sports club
• Spend 1‑on‑1 contact at the family’s home, playing games, chatting, or engaging in outdoor activities

Your contact can be weekly or as needed. You will be linked to a person with an intellectual disability and/or autism‑related disorder, with guidance provided in the background by a family counselor and/or STG.

• Clear communication skills
• Patience and willingness to build a good relationship over time

Day, time, and frequency can be agreed upon in consultation.

Training courses are available for free to support volunteers.
