An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team.
As dispensary manager you will be responsible for all medications dispensed by the Wadebridge and Camel Estuary Practice dispensary. Ensuring the service is quick, efficient and accurate. Ensuring there is an effective financial control within the dispensary.
Main duties of the jobPrimary key responsibilities
- Planning and allocating work for all dispensary staff
- Overseeing all dispensing matters within the practice, checking colleagues dispensing as required
- Dispensing prescriptions for patients
- Collecting prescription charges from patients, cashing up and balancing monies received
- Cross‑referencing number and value of prescription charges against statements, ensuring accuracy
- Coordinating requests for repeat prescriptions via telephone, email, online and over the counter
- Ensuring requests for repeat prescriptions are processed within a 48‑hour timeframe
- Managing the return of medicines from patients
- Dealing with uncollected medication in accordance with current policy
- Effectively managing stock levels within the dispensary, ensuring adequate levels are held, minimising wastage and expenditure
- Promoting a safe and effective working environment, conforming to legislation, ensuring drugs are stored appropriately, within temperature parameters and securely
- Managing the cold chain process, ensuring all staff record temperatures accurately and store items appropriately
- Conducting stock‑takes in accordance with guidance
- Processing invoices for payment, liaising with the practice manager as required
- Assisting with QOF targets
- Line managing, appraising and developing dispensary staff
- Facilitating dispenser training with drug reps
- Completing all necessary components of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme (DSQS)
- Line managing the dispensary staff in accordance with current practice policy
- Liaising with the Primary Care Network to ensure all prescribing incentive work is completed
- Being responsible for Health and Safety and Fire Safety within the practice
- Liaising with cleaning company to ensure standards are maintained
- Ordering any items the nursing team may require
- Organising bi-monthly practical lunches with drug reps

- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
- BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
- Registered with GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
- Experience of working in a dispensary
- Experience in managing dispensary services in primary care
- Broad knowledge of general practice
- Good clinical system IT knowledge of EMIS
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong IT skills, competent in the use of Office and Outlook
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Ability to promote best practice regarding all pharmaceutical matters
- Effective time management (planning and organising)
- Ability to manage and develop staff (rotas, appraisals, etc.)
- Capable of managing payments (invoices, cash, etc.)
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
- Good interpersonal skills
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to follow policy and procedure
- Ability to effectively manage stock, including ordering, rotation, disposal etc.
- Flexibility to work outside of core office hours
- Evidence of continuing professional development
