Job Overview

This position is under limited supervision. The role involves creating basic to highly complex instrumentation, controls and related system designs, developing technical memoranda, preparing preliminary design reports, reviewing component level shop drawings, responding to RFIs, performing field acceptance testing (FATs) and inspections, designing human-machine interfaces (HMIs), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), preparing level of effort estimates, leading testing and startup teams, providing test and startup documentation, assisting with operation and maintenance manuals, developing user training, mentoring junior staff, reviewing junior staff work, performing proposal development and presentations.

Responsibilities
  • Create basic to highly complex instrumentation, controls and related system designs using 3D and 4D drafting programs.
  • Develop basic technical memoranda related to design issues for clients.
  • Prepare preliminary design reports (PDRs) under supervision.
  • Review basic to highly complex component level shop drawings.
  • Provide responses to requests for information (RFIs) under supervision.
  • Perform field acceptance testing (FATs) and field inspections.
  • Design basic to highly complex human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Prepare level of effort estimates (LOEs).
  • Lead testing and startup teams for basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems independently with minimal supervision.
  • Responsible for testing and startup documentation completion and quality assurance filing.
  • Assist with the development of basic to moderately complex operations & Maintenance manuals for designed instrumentation, controls and related systems.
  • Under minimal supervision, develop systems training for end users.
  • Lead teams and provide direction and mentoring for junior staff.
  • Review the work of junior staff as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Assist with proposal development and presentation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with P&IDs, familiar with AutoCAD electrical, familiar with various control systems (i.e. Rockwell, ABB, Siemens…)
  • Control hardware selection, control system architecture, panel layouts.
  • Proficient at programming one or more of the following:
    Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Emerson Delta V, Honeywell Experion, Factory Talk View, Ignition Wonderware.

Skills and Abilities

Expert knowledge of instrumentation, controls and related systems designs. Excellent communication skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite of programs. Expert knowledge of 3D and 4D CAD drafting.
