Position: Social counselor for young refugees (18 years +)

Social counselor for young refugees (18 years +)

Help a young man (18 years old) find his way in Wageningen. A number of single young refugees will soon be living independently in rooms.

You help the young man with the paperwork and help him find his way in the municipality. Think for example of taking out insurance and energy contracts, applying for allowances and looking for further education. But the guidance goes further than just practical matters. It also involves finding his way in and around the house, making contacts in the neighbourhood, finding sports and leisure activities.

A lot of attention is also paid to expanding the social network and the self‑reliance of the refugee, so that they can work independently on their new future more quickly.

Vluchtelingen Werk is looking for volunteers with a higher professional education work and thinking level, who are willing to commit themselves for at least two half days per week for a period of at least one year.

Who are we looking for?
  • Good communication skills.
  • Respectful and patient attitude towards clients.
  • Flexibility in dealing with unexpected and unknown situations.
  • Taking responsibility for your tasks, but also being able to indicate your own boundaries.
  • Honest in dealing with (confidential) information.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Basic knowledge of a foreign language (preferably English).
  • Good computer skills.
What do we have to offer you?
  • Working in a motivated team of volunteers.
  • Gaining work experience in a social organization.
  • Expert guidance by a professional.
  • Travel or expense allowance and insurance during working hours.
  • Participation in training and courses.
