Summary of PositionThe Production Team Leader (PTL) is responsible for leading a team of process operators on shift, ensuring optimal performance and results in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE), production, reliability, quality, cost, people development, and compliance. This role provides leadership in achieving operational excellence across key metrics and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. Assess and develop the skills and capability of the technicians on the shift team to meet current and future needs.
Conducts qualification walkthroughs with the Trainees. This walkthrough is to demonstrate to the Production Team Leader that the Trainee has acquired the appropriate amount of process knowledge and skills to efficiently and effectively perform the job safely. Serves as the primary communication and management link for and to the shift teams, which includes communication links with Production Superintendent, Production Operation Manager and others.
Implements and monitors the effectiveness of the daily work processes to be executed by the shift teams.
- Lead and manage shift teams, ensuring continuity in production activities and requirements.
- Collaborate with the incident commander to address unit-specific issues.
- Promote a culture of safety, coaching team members and contractors on visible safety leadership.
- Address employee performance concerns and partner with the Operations Superintendent for resolution.
- Provide recognition and disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Coach and supervise chemical process operators to ensure compliance with key performance metrics.
- Oversee daily production processes and performance within assigned units.
- Lead Tier 1 meetings and actively contribute to Tier 2 meetings, fostering open and collaborative relationships.
- Ensure team members receive necessary training, balancing development with production demands.
- Monitor and coordinate resources to meet daily and weekly targets efficiently.
- Report plant and process performance updates to Operations Management.
- Assist with preventive maintenance (PM) execution and Work Execution Management processes.
- Coordinate with key customers and the logistics team for safe and efficient product handling.
- Ensure all unit checklists, procedure reviews, and compliance checks are completed by shift teams.
- Monitor compliance with chemical manufacturing safety, environmental, quality, and cost metrics.
- Schedule daily operator tasks and confirm priorities for weekly operations and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot plant and product quality issues as needed.
- Provide overall leadership during off-shift and weekend hours, ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
- Manage mechanical repair coordination for continuous facility operation.
- Handle emergency callouts and oversee material receipt and shipping operations.
- Act as Incident Commander in emergencies, coordinating response teams and government agency activities.
- Ensure perimeter security and oversee on-site security personnel.
- Serve as the point of contact for government representatives and local community members as needed.
- Facilitate operations during Start-Ups and Shutdowns across units.
- Act as a backup permit signer for all units.
- Provide off-shift support to Material Services and oversee shift firefighters.
- Call out necessary personnel for incident support and ensure proper yard operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by company leadership.

- 5-7 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, refining, or related industrial environments.
- 7-10 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, refining, or related industrial environments.
- Supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred Three or more qualifications, including Distributed Control System (DCS) board qualification. Experience in leading, coaching, and developing workgroup members is advantageous.
