Compliance Inspector
Full‑time position in the Consumer Protection Services Division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF). Based in Oklahoma. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package and a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.
SalaryUp to $61,000 annually based on education and experience. Hourly pay up to $29.32 based on education and experience.
Position DescriptionThis position will be responsible for testing and inspecting commercial vehicle scales, livestock market scales, ranch scales, and platform scales across the state to ensure that regulated scale companies follow all applicable laws, complete all associated reports, and use a computer, databases, and other equipment for preparation of reports and electronic submission to the central office.
Typical Functions- Inspect and test commercial vehicle scales, livestock market scales, ranch scales, and platform scales to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Verify private scale companies follow applicable state laws and rules.
- Research, understand applicable ordinances, regulations, laws, codes, and other relevant documents to conduct thorough and accurate inspections or investigations.
- Conduct follow‑up measures such as additional inspections or investigations or surveys to confirm corrective actions are in process or have been completed, bringing the licensee into compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Conduct inspections, investigations, and any required follow‑up activities according to agency or regulatory standards, including documentation such as field notes and other related records, the collection and preservation of evidence, and coordination of the inspection or investigation activities with internal and external partners and stakeholders as needed.
- Recommend corrective actions such as licensure revocation, fines, or penalties because of the findings of the inspection or investigation.
- Prepare clear and concise technical reports based on the findings of the inspection/investigation. The report should include the analysis of the findings; identified problems and the solution, corrective actions issued, and any follow‑up measures needed.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and consumers.
- Prepare and deliver professional presentations to a variety of audiences to provide information regarding technical terms and concepts, complex issues, or other program related topics.
- Testify in hearings and administrative and court cases.
- Assist Legal in the preparation of hearings and administrative and court cases.
At this level consists of a bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of experience conducting regulatory investigations in accordance with applicable principles and practices; or six (6) years of professional experience conducting regulatory investigations in accordance with applicable principles and practices; or other comparable experience.
This position requires a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skill, and AbilitiesKnowledge of the maintenance and operation of scales; semi‑trucks and related equipment; math and critical thinking; regulation licensing programs or agricultural practices; operational procedures, rules pertaining to state laws and mandates; IT licensing platforms; record keeping and report writing methods; safety concepts, rules, and codes.
