Salary — Level I: up to $56,088.00;
Level II: up to $63,000;
Level III: up to $66,205.00.

Position

Description:

Sooner Start is Oklahoma’s early intervention program designed to meet the needs of families with infants and toddlers (ages birth to 3 years old) with developmental delays and/or disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The program builds upon and provides supports and resources to assist family members to enhance infants or toddler’s learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.

The Occupational Therapists in the Sooner Start program are primarily responsible for examining and treating children with physical impairments and/or difficulties through the use of physical modalities, self‑care and neurological needs. The goal is to assist the caregiver and child improve mobility and function to increase independent movement and other skills necessary for functioning in daily routines.

This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services in Occupational Therapy. Services are provided in the child’s natural environment settings such as home or childcare. Services include screenings, evaluations, intervention, and parent education.

Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Provides early intervention services in the child and family’s natural environment (home, childcare, park, etc.).
  • Makes recommendations concerning standardized treatments/intervention based on developmental indications.
  • Completes child assessments concerning developmental, educational, and social skills/abilities.
  • Participates in family interview.
  • Conducts intakes, including client interviews, and assesses to make appropriate recommendations for services.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Individualized Family Service Plan according to state and federal guidelines.
  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.
  • Develops a treatment plan to address areas of need including routine‑based activities, neuro‑motor and sensory‑motor function/activities and child/family coaching and education sessions.
  • Participates in the assessment, design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices.
