Job Purpose and Summary

We help people navigate the health care system and improve access and affordability. Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians support the pharmacy team to consistently deliver operational and service excellence. Technicians are often the first point of contact for patients and customers, helping to create an exceptional experience and ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately.

Once in the role, technicians complete rigorous company training and meet all state registration, licensing and certification requirements. Duties may be restricted until the Pharmacy Technician has completed all necessary requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, offering immunizations and other services, and escalating patient problems when needed.
  • Perform basic inventory activities such as putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting‑bin inventories.
  • Support a high‑performing team by embracing a growth mindset, seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge, and being receptive to feedback.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, and voluntarily travel to stores in the market as needed.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations, professional standards and ethical principles, and CVS policies to maintain patient safety and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health‑care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing) where authorized.

Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may also support immunizations:

  • Meet licensure and training requirements for Technician Immunizer status.
  • Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer questions to the on‑duty pharmacist.
  • Monitor and respond to adverse reactions and report per public health requirements.
  • Collect, track and document patient information as required.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Comply with state board of pharmacy requirements, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
  • Be at least 16 years old if the state board does not set a minimum age.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or an equivalency program if no minimum educational requirement is stated.
  • Meet state‑level licensure and national certification requirements as applicable.

Essential Functions

  • Regular & predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Maintain focus on tasks, confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
  • Provide friendly customer service and actively help people.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Use verbal and written communication effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Employ active listening and appropriate questioning.
  • Apply basic mathematical reasoning to dispense prescriptions accurately.
  • Resolve challenging patient or colleague interactions by choosing the best course of action.
  • Handle physical demands such as standing, lifting (up to 20 lbs), reaching, typing, and using precision.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service…
