base pay range

$16.00/hr - $16.00/hr

summary

reporting to the restore manager, the part‑time restore associate (part‑time ra) will assist with the day‑to‑day operations of the storefront, sales floor, and back room receiving and processing of donations. The part‑time ra will leverage available volunteers to accomplish daily tasks efficiently and will be responsible for store projects assigned as needed. Excellent customer service will be required for donors, customers, volunteers, and cs members.

this is a part‑time non‑exempt position requiring flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. The part‑time ra will likely work 2‑3 days per week, monday–saturday (over 30 hours) at the position.

essential functions
  • ensure the donation area is neat, clean, orderly, and that products are cleaned, priced, and moved properly to facilitate an enjoyable shopping experience.
  • evaluate the condition/price of incoming merchandise (including furniture, cabinets, lawn equipment) to ensure it is sellable and meets restore product acceptance standards.
  • ensure volunteers complete daily tasks in a timely and safe manner.
  • provide excellent customer service to customers and donors.
  • operate the cash register.
  • promote the mission, vision, and values of hfhwc.
  • work closely with the restore manager to determine individual projects for store improvements (e.g., building new display equipment).
  • learn about hfhwc and the restore to communicate our mission and purpose to volunteers and customers.

supervisory controls

the part‑time ra works in coordination with the restore manager and manages volunteers and cs members within the restore. Formal reviews are held annually by the restore manager.

guidelines

employee will be guided by habitat’s mission principles and habitat wake’s strategic plan and departmental goals.

complexity

responsibilities involve a variety of interrelated tasks. Procedures vary based on management requirements, and the part‑time ra must work with volunteers, cs members, visitors, etc. To fulfill varying roles.

scope and effect

errors in work performance may result in delays in cost recovery or loss of revenue, causing serious operational disruptions.

contacts

the role involves frequent contact with other hfhwc staff, clients, stakeholders, vendors, donors, the city of raleigh community service work program, customers, external private/public entities, and government agencies for information exchange, problem solving, and opportunity discovery.

physical demands

regularly required to be on feet for long periods (8‑hr days, 5 days/week). Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying, pulling, and reaching to many times each day. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

work environment

primarily retail/warehouse environment. May involve use of equipment such as forklift, power tools, hand tools, ladders, price guns, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Occasionally work in outside conditions with heat, humidity, and high noise levels.

minimum education and experience requirements
  • no degree required, but experience working in customer service, retail, reuse and/or trades is preferred.
  • excellent communication skills with a strong passion for the organization’s mission.
  • self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team with great energy and persistence. Experience working with diverse constituencies.
