SummaryThis role involves interpreting customer technical needs to define product specifications, designing and testing new product features, and developing custom mechanical components. It also includes creating and maintaining accurate technical documentation, providing on‑site support, and collaborating cross‑functionally to ensure successful product implementation.
ReportingReports to:
Director of Applications Engineering.
- Collect and interpret customer’s mechanical, electrical, and software requirements for new business opportunities.
- Define internal specifications for new hardware and software product features based on customer requirements.
- Test and evaluate new product features to ensure customer requirements and expectations are achieved.
- Provide onsite system integration support and training for customer evaluations and first‑time product installations.
- Provide timely and accurate responses to customer‑driven information and action requests.
- Understand root cause and drive resolution of product issues/problems/inquiries with respect to performance and reliability.
- Plan, design, research, write a range of documents, including product manuals, application notes, technical presentations, marketing material, software release notes, technical support bulletins, product change notices, training material, and videos.
- Maintain currency and accuracy of all documentation.
- Establish, communicate, and maintain documentation standards, and provide training where required.
- Develop project plans and timelines.
- Regularly participate in product / project team meetings.
- Fully fluent in both written and spoken English.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
- Proficiency with authoring software (MS Office suite, Adobe Professional).
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and technical specifications.
- Demonstrates organizational skills and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent interviewing skills to elicit information from a variety of engineering resources.
- Ability to quickly grasp and communicate technical concepts.
- Ability to succeed with minimal resources and minimal supervision.
- Team and customer oriented person with professional demeanor.
- Required approx. 20% travel to supplier locations which include local, domestic, and international locations.
- Work is sedentary in nature, but may require standing, walking, grasping, and lifting/moving up to 30 pounds.
- MS or BS in robotics, mechanical, electrical engineering, or computer science (robotics / mechatronics experience preferred).
